I don't know what 'our industry' (presumably the one you work in) is so hard to comment.

We have to abstract somewhat to understand what is going on. We cannot understand how to go from higher capitalism to higher communism without thinking about what higher communism entails productively. It is clear that production tends towards fully automated production and that additive production is a form of automation. Plants grow automatically, microbial life grows automatically, etc. Capitalists are already tending to shift to automated and additive production to lower production costs and beat competition. Technically socialism is going to continue this trend because why wouldn't it also want to improve efficiency and quality. There is no claim here that socialist production is always clean, additive and reciprocal, but that socialism will be able to transition production in that direction.
